Sarah's family photo in Florida

Hi there, SEAMO! I'm Sarah, SEAMO's Communications Officer, proudly joining the team in June 2024. I know what you're thinking — wait, didn't I miss the chance to say hello earlier? You're absolutely right. I came in a little quietly, but since comms are my jam, I wanted to take a moment to properly introduce myself to our community. So, whether you met me at the retreat, exchanged emails, or had absolutely no idea who I am until now, here I am — Sarah, your go-to person for all things communications.

Why SEAMO? A Perfect Fit, if I Do Say So Myself

So, what drew me to this role? Well, having been with Queen's for nearly 10 years (yes, I've been around the block in the Faculty of Arts and Science and Smith Engineering), I'm no stranger to the world of communications. But when I read about this role at SEAMO, I was like, "Oh, this is it." I love working in environments where I can support people who are doing amazing things and help share those stories with the world. There's something incredibly rewarding about using the power of storytelling to connect people, and in this role, I get to do that while supporting an inspiring group of healthcare professionals. Plus, who doesn't love a good challenge? It's a perfect fit for me, blending my skills with the chance to amplify the voices of SEAMO's amazing physicians.

What Do I Actually Do Around Here?

Now that I'm properly introduced, here's what I do. I run our social channels (so if you see something fun on X or LinkedIn, it's probably me!), coordinate our annual fall retreat, create the newsletter (your inbox loves me, right?), and, of course, tell the stories of the incredible things our community is up to. It's a fun and dynamic role, and I get to connect with so many of you in the process!

How Can I Help You? Let's Tell Your Story!

Here's where I need your help: one of my goals is to tell more stories about you — the phenomenal physicians and members who make SEAMO what it is. Getting your stories out there, whether it's about a groundbreaking project or a personal accomplishment, helps not only to showcase your work but also inspire others. With a high readership of engaged members, getting your story in front of people means building a sense of connection and pride in the community. So, if you're doing something exciting (or even if you're just proud of something small), don't be shy — reach out to me! Let's get your story out there.

What Am I Most Excited About?

As I settle into this role, I'm most excited to get to know each and every one of you. From collaborating with physicians on their accomplishments to learning about the fascinating work you're all doing, I'm looking forward to bringing those stories to life. There's so much going on in our community, and I can't wait to shine a light on all of it!

Something Surprising About Me Outside of Work

Lastly, for something a little more personal: I'm very crafty! Whether it's learning modern calligraphy, mastering macramé, or creating something new with my Cricut machine, I’m always up for a DIY challenge. And yes, this comes from my design background — I’m constantly learning and experimenting with new creative skills.

And while I love a good creative project, my heart lays on the beaches in St. Pete, Florida. It's a family favourite, and I am the third generation to visit the same condo that's been passed down over the years. Fun fact: the photo with this story if from our most recent trip.

Let’s Connect!

If you have a story to share, or if you’re not sure if your story is “story-worthy,” don’t hesitate to get in touch. I’d love to hear from you and share what makes you and your work special!
