We are happy to welcome three new physicians to Team SEAMO in January 2025.
Dr. Rukaiyah Lakkadghatwala joins the Department of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Lakkadghatwala completed her medical degree at Queen’s University in 2020, followed by certification in Family Medicine from the College of Family Physicians of Canada in 2022. She pursued further specialization in Emergency Medicine, receiving certification in 2023. Dr. Lakkadghatwala has been practising in British Columbia, with her most recent position at Surrey Memorial Hospital’s Department of Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Kristel Leung joins the Department of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology. Dr. Leung completed her medical degree at The University of British Columbia, graduating with distinction in 2016. She pursued residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of Ottawa, followed by a Gastroenterology residency at the University of Toronto. She recently completed an Autoimmune Liver Disease Clinical and Research Fellowship at the University Health Network, where she continues to serve as a Clinical Associate and Hepatologist. Dr. Leung is also pursuing a PhD in Clinical Epidemiology and Health Care Research at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health. Her academic and clinical expertise in autoimmune liver diseases and gastroenterology will be a valuable addition to the Kingston health community.
Dr. Robert Sarmiento joins the Department of Medicine in the Division of Neurology. Dr. Sarmiento is a board-certified neurologist with a passion for vascular and stroke neurology, hyperacute stroke care, public health, and medical education. Originally from the Philippines, he completed his clinical specialty training at the University of the Philippines - Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH), where he served as chief resident in 2020. Dr. Sarmiento pursued further fellowship training, completing his first year at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton and his second year at Vancouver General Hospital.
