This month, we are happy to welcome nine new physicians to Team SEAMO.
Dr. Pear Ferreira joins the Department of Ophthalmology. Dr. Ferreira's education includes a PhD in Clinical Sciences from Chulalongkorn University, a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and several fellowships in vitreoretinal surgery and research from the University of Toronto and the University of California San Francisco. She completed her Ophthalmology Residency and Medical School at Chulalongkorn University. Dr. Ferreira joins us from Chulalongkorn University in Thailand, where she was an Associate Professor and Vice-Chair of Ophthalmology Care Services.
Dr. Lourdes Ramirez Hobak joins the Department of Medicine. She completed her Medical and Dermatology degrees in Mexico City, then completed a Fellowship in Advanced Medical Dermatology at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Matthew Piaseczny joins the Department of Emergency Medicine. He completed his undergraduate studies and Master’s at Western University before completing Medical School at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Zainab Samaan joins the Department of Psychiatry as Department Head and has also been appointed SEAMO Chair in Research and Innovation. Dr. Samaan completed her medical training in Iraq, and clinical Psychiatry training in Ireland and the UK, and holds a Master’s from Trinity Colege Dublin and a PhD from King’s College London. She comes to Kingston from McMaster University.
Dr. Jennifer Sharma joins the Department of Medicine in the Division of Neurology. She completed her MD at Case Western University in Cleveland, OH, and her neurology residency at Queen’s University. She went on to pursue a Movement Disorders Fellowship at the University of Cincinnati.
Dr. Sergiy Shatenko joins the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine. Dr. Shetenko completed his undergraduate studies at the University of British Columbia and his postgraduate training at Queen’s University.
Dr. Marko Skrtic joins the Department of Medicine. After undergraduate studies in Biology at McMaster, he pursued the MD PhD program at the University of Toronto. Afterward, he completed internal medicine training at the University of Toronto, followed by a Nephrology Fellowship at McMaster University. He recently completed a clinical onco-nephrology fellowship at the University Health Network, and a research fellowship studying macrophage cell biology at the Hospital for Sick Kids.
Dr. Steven Tresierra joins the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine. Dr. Tresierra started his undergraduate studies at Queen’s University, but after his second year, he transferred to UBC–Okanagan to be closer to the Whispering Pines Band and to re-establish his connection to his Indigenous heritage. He returned to Queen’s for Medical School after earning his Bachelor of Science.
Dr. Sarah Wozney joins the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She completed her medical education at the University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, followed by a residency at Memorial University of Newfoundland Faculty of Medicine, and a fellowship in Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery at Dalhousie University. Dr. Wozney joins us from Lethbridge, Alberta.
