Reminder: There are Two Models to Send an eConsult
Did you know there are two ways to send an eConsult? You can send consults to a regional group of specialists, or directly to a specialist. The direct to specialist option is great when the requesting clinician or patient has an existing relationship with a specialist. The regional group option is great when you want to easily access a group of specialists, but do not have a preference on who responds.
- The “BASE™ Managed Specialty” option enables the requesting provider to submit cases to a regional (e.g. South East) or Provincial BASE™ managed specialty group, which is a group of specialists responding to cases for a given specialty or sub-specialty (e.g. pediatric cardiology). The case is then assigned based on specialist availability.
- The “Specific Provider or Group” option enables the requesting provider to submit cases directly to individual specialists or groups (such as self-managed groups) by searching in a directory.
