As of March 1, 2023, eConsults can be submitted to the South East Psychiatry Adult Mental Health and Addiction specialist group led by Drs. Taras Reshetukha and Nazanin Alavi. The South East Psychiatry Adult Mental Health and Addiction specialist group consists of general adult psychiatrists with additional expertise in mood and anxiety disorders, women’s health, addiction disorders and ADHD. Psychiatrists in this group are also connected with the Outpatient Adult Mental Health and Addiction Program at Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC). This program receives between 200-300 new patient referrals per month. Many questions can be rapidly addressed without needing in-person consultation and reducing the wait period involved. Psychiatrists can also advise on in-person or virtual assessment if better suited to address a referral question.
Common questions that can be answered using the eConsult service:
- Medication optimization/alternative therapeutics
- Mental health resources utilization
- Management of psychiatric medication’s side-effects
- Post-discharge (from in- or out-patient services) questions
Dr. Reshetukha says he and his team are looking forward to assisting more patients using eConsult. "Situated within the Division of Acute Psychiatry at KHSC, the South East Psychiatry Adult Mental Health and Addiction Service has enthusiastically adopted eConsult within the shared practice model. All eConsults submitted to this South East Psychiatry Adult Mental Health and Addiction specialist group will be triaged by the Clinical Intake Coordinator in the Outpatient Adult Mental Health and Addiction Program at KHSC. This will ensure suitability for e-consult and allow for assignment to the best-suited psychiatrist for your patient's particular needs,” he explains.
Please be advised that requests for eConsults must be submitted through the Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) eConsult tool only.
